Medical records are required for a firearm medical report to ensure the applicant is mentally and physically fit to safely handle a firearm. This review helps identify any health issues or medications that could impair their ability to use a firearm, ensuring public safety and compliance with legal requirements. The completed information is then used by the police force to decide on your fitness to obtain a firearms.
Please note that the doctor completing your firearm medical report does not make a decision regarding your suitability to hold a firearm or shotgun certificate. The medical proforma is completed accurately based on a review of your medical records and is then submitted to the relevant police force. The police are responsible for making the final licensing decision and may seek further information from you, your GP, or other sources if required. We do not determine whether an application is approved or refused.
Once your medical proforma has been completed, please review it carefully. If you believe any information is inaccurate, notify our team as soon as possible so that we can investigate. In some cases, inaccuracies may originate from your GP medical records and will need to be corrected by your GP practice before updated records can be provided and the report reviewed.
We retain your medical records securely in electronic format for up to six months after your report has been completed. This allows us to respond to any requests for further information or clarification from the relevant police force. After six months, your medical records are securely deleted in accordance with our data retention policy.
